I just got TiVo, so, I'm not gonna miss another episode.

I love this shoe...oops...shoW! I find it interesting that this stuff happens everyday, and the people who do all the wrong could care less about it being considered racist.

This entry was kinda pointless, but I will be posting again tonight after I watch it, or tomorrow sometime.

BTW, Is tonight's show the season finale?

BW article! [28 Mar 2006|07:28pm]

So, I wrote an article about FX for SMRT-TV.com this week, if you're interested. I'd love to hear your thoughts; some of these issues are SO complex it's hard to even write abotu them in...black and white terms, you know? Like the way Nick's parents see him, versus the way Nick wants to come off to the world, versus the way Rose sees Nick...

And, of course, the complicated interpersonal stuff with Renee and Carmen -- I agree with soulsister16 that ALL the adults need to chill out, yo.

Anyway, Black. White. article -- let me know what you think! There's a forum linked to the website for public discussion too...

I will be writing another BW article after the last ep airs, and I would definitely love to brainstorm with some of you to get a broader perspective for it -- let me know if you're interested. Thanks!

Does anyone have a torrent for yesterday's episode? Or do you know where I can get an .avi?

Episode 2 [15 Mar 2006|11:35pm]

A bitter argument erupts between Renee and Carmen over the use of racially charged language. Rose is torn over revealing her true "color" to her new friends in the poetry group or maintaining her cover for the sake of the project. Brian gains access to white culture when he lands a job as a bartender while in white make-up.

...is Carmen really THAT STUPID? "Yo, bitch!" How do you not think that would be somewhat offensive---to anyone?

I really felt for Rose though---I was scared at first because I didn't know how the group would react to her finally revealing her secret identity as a white girl. I think they probably all felt rather betrayed, though, since their poetry is all based on honestly and truthfulness and they have a fake among their ranks. Is she gonna continue with the poetry class now sans makeup? Hmm.

Renee and Carmen need to calm down though.

Episode 1 [15 Mar 2006|11:30pm]

[ mood | blah ]

Two families - one white and one black - come together under one roof in Los Angeles as they prepare to go out in the world as the other race. The Wurgels (Bruno, Carmen, and daughter Rose) are a white liberal family from California, and the Sparks (Brian, Renee, and son Nick) are a middle class black family from Georgia.

Bruno was beginning to agitate me, personally. He just doesn't seem to think racism exists; perhaps his perception will change as the project continues? Also, I was a tad bit fearful for Rose in her endeavors to fit in with the poetry group. I thought they would be able to see through the makeup just because she didn't seem to feel comfortable in her own skin---I suppose that's because it wasn't hers.

Nick is bugging me, though. He doesn't seem too interested in the whole experiment except for when he has something negative to say about it. I really hope he and Bruno get something out of this.

So I'm not very good with introductions. Hi, I guess, my name is rubyredblood and I created this community for the discussion of the new, controversial show on F/X called Black. White.

I looked around and didn't find another community already established, so I figured I should start my own as the show is pretty popular with my friends. So.

Basically the purpose of this community is to discuss:

  • the show, obviously
  • the issues it tackles
  • your own experiences with racism
  • what you think about the views of each person involved in the project
  • etcetera.
I don't like communities with too many rules, and even though it goes without saying:

While it is open to discussion on racism and your views on the subject, do NOT come here to spout off about how you hate all white people or all black people. This is a community for (how many times must I say it?) OPEN-MINDED DISCUSSION.
